Full Text

Washington, December 20.

The House of Representatives have been these two days acting with closed doors. They adjourned last night with closed doors and will of course commence with them to-morrow. Something of the deepest importance to the nation is undoubtedly before them. Various indeed are the conjectures as to the particular object which now occupies their attention. But whether an Embargo, or a Non-intercourse Law, or an actual declaration of War, will be the result of their deliberations, a few days perhaps will determine. In the mean time, and notwithstanding the intrigues and mysteries of government, it behoves all classes of citizens, and particularly the merchants to be upon their guard, and endeavor to prepare themselves for the calamity, which threatens us.
