Wilmington Fur Dealer Denies Triple
Murder Saying He Was a Victim of
Circumstances and is Innocent.
Wilmington, Ohio, Nov. 22. - Oliver
Vandervort, a fur dealer, was held in
the county jail here today on a charge
of murder, following statements by
his ten-year-old son Oliver and his
mother-in-law, Mrs. Jeff Whitlow, that
he fired shots from a pistol which
killed three persons at Cuba, a near-
by village, last Saturday night. Besides
Mrs. Whitlow, who died shortly
after making her statement, other vic-
tims of Vandervort's alleged act were
Bertha Whitlow Vandervort, 30 years
old, twice divorced from Vandervort,
and Howard Bosier, 24 years old, said
to have been calling upon Mrs. Van-
dervort at the time of the shooting,
which occurred at the house in which
she and her mother resided.
After
authorities had
questioned
Vandervort's son for a second time,
and he had reiterated his former
statement that his father had done the
shooting, which was also witnessed by
two more of his children, it was an-
nounced late today that arraignment
of Vandervort had been postponed in-
definitely, pending attempts to ob-
tain evidence.
Meantime, Vandervort continued to
denying any connection with the shoot-
ing, saying that he was passing the
home of his former wife at the time
of the shooting and was a victim of
circumstances.
