BALTIMORE, MD.

A private letter from a highly respectable source in the city of Baltimore, received in this city, gives the following pleasing representation of the present state of religion there.

"I am happy to say that the Lord is graciously pouring out his Holy Spirit on our city. We have a great and glorious revival. It is now about 53 years since I joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. Baltimore town. (now city,) then was embraced in Baltimore Circuit. At that time, we had but two churches, one on Light street, the other on Strawberry alley, (Fells Point.) We have now twelve churches within the limits of the city, besides several others adjacent. The present revival commenced immediately after the Camp meeting which was held in August; and protracted meetings have been kept up in the city station in one or other of the churches ever since. About two hundred have been added to the church. Likewise in the North Baltimore Station, the good work has been continued, and one hundred and thirty have joined the church. The West Baltimore Station has also continued the meetings, and upwards of one hundred have been admitted. The number of converts has greatly exceeded any thing ever known in so short a period. And the prospect is still favorable for a continuance of the good work. Friday last, the 25th inst. being the centenary of Methodism was observed as a Holy day; there was a general suspension of business, and all the churches were opened for public worship; prayer-meeting at sunrise, preaching at 11 o'clock, society meetings at three o'clock, and preaching at 7 o'clock in the evening. The day passed off very pleasantly and with pleasing prospects of a continuance of Heaven's blessing on the church."
