Full Text

A letter from the Bay of Honduras, to a Gentleman in Newport, dated March 7. says "The new Spanish governor of Yucatan has caused a strange revolution in our small state, by an order for all the baymen to retire to Balis, and suspend all business which was followed soon after by an order from the Commandant of Baccallar, threatening, in case of contumacy, disobedience, or rebellion, on our parts, to seize our Negroes, and arrest our persons; and as we are so unlucky as to have no authentick authority to shew for our establishment, we find ourselves obliged to temporize; and you can scarcely imagine the distress. We have sent a vessel express to acquaint the Governor of Jamaica of our miserable situation. Here is now 20 sail of shipping, and not one of them here being loaded, nor in any way of getting a stick of log wood till the return of the express."
