The Lakeland, Florida, Chamber of Commerce, in a three-days' drive, raised $115,000.
The drive was conducted by local management and attained the goal set one day ahead of the time limit.
A movement in Union to raise $2,000 for advertising and $1,500 for carrying on the work of the chamber of commerce finally reached the goal after several weeks' hard pulling. Florida may be overdoing it, but certainly Union is underdoing it. If we had a bit more of the Florida spirit here we would all see conditions rapidly improving. Those who gave liberally also receive bounteously.
The more you give, the more you get. Conservatism is a good virtue, if not worked to the point of producing paralysis. But, worked too far, it does paralyze, and no mistake. Retrenchment that cuts out the public spirit destroys a community.
