The "Reporter and Observer" of Wednesday last, says, "we learn that our Candidate for Governor and Lieut. Governor, are doing all that men can do, to awaken the public mind, and stimulate the Whig party to one more manly effort" &c. But (continues the Reporter) they must be aided by their friends, in the great battle which they are fighting, or defeat and disaster must follow. Let every Whig bear in mind that the elections in August, are to have their salutary effect throughout the Union. If we are beaten then, it is useless to contend in November. So we say to the Democratic party in Ky.—If we fail in electing Maj. Flournoy and Mr. Hise in August, we scarcely need contend in November. Our defeat too, will be felt throughout the Union. The friends of Col. Johnson will be discouraged shall it be said Col. Johnson's own state would not sustain him? That Kentucky whom he has served so ably and faithfully in Congress for the last twenty years. Kentucky, whose fame he has placed high in the annals of his country, for bravery, patriotism, and all that characterizes a high minded and gallant people. We ask, shall it be said, Kentucky is so lost to gratitude, as to cast her vote for GRANGER, a northern Abolitionist and Antimason, in preference to our brave and gallant Johnson? God forbid! Yet if the Democrats are not vigilant, active, and determined to make a "manly effort" in August, our wily and indefatigable opponents will succeed. Every Democrat should feel as though Col. Johnson's success, depended upon his single vote. He should go to the polls then promptly on the first day of our August election and vote. Not only do this, but he should induce as many to vote with him as possible.

Let the friends of Col. Johnson begin now, to present his claims to the people. Let every man at all acquainted with his political history feel it his duty to give his neighbor the information he possesses; and our word for it, our exertions will be crowned with success. Yes, we will then say to our sister states in a voice too loud not to be heard, Col. Johnson is Ky's favourite son. That she justly appreciates his faithful services in the councils of his country, as well as on the field of battle. This declaration by Kentucky will insure his election to the Vice Presidency. We once more entreat our Democratic friends throughout Kentucky to be "up and doing" and all will be safe.

There are many articles of great interest, for which we have not room at present.
