Full Text
The Madisonian groans awfully at the course
of the President. It says:
The removals made on Saturday and to-day, and
those known to have been determined on, have filled
our city with gloom. The annunciation of the heart-
rending disaster on board the Princeton, a year ago,
did not create a greater shock in this community than
the wholesale proscription commenced by President
Polk has done, more especially as we were not pre-
pared for it, after his public speeches and oral declar-
ations had been received.
