Six Universities Plan on Stadiums to Honor Troops

Urbana, Feb. 5.—Six universities have planned stadiums or gymnasiums as memorials to the American troops who served in the war. Owing to the athletic nature of American soldiers, it is believed to be especially fitting. The universities planning to make such memorials are Kansas, Washington, Lafayette, New York, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. The costs range from $200,000 to $1,000,000.

Six institutions also expect to make union buildings as war memorials. They are Wisconsin, South Carolina, Michigan, Iowa State, and Vermont. However, all the latter projects have been in the form of stadiums or gymnasiums because of stronger recommendations given for the type of memorial, and the greater success achieved in putting through campaigns for financing them.

Other forms of memorials planned by universities are halls, chapels, monuments, administration buildings and towers.
