Boston, Oct. 17.

From Castine.—A gentleman from the eastward reports that a frigate arrived at Castine last Monday, direct from Halifax, bringing a proclamation of sir John Sherbrooke, which stated, among other things, that all those who wished to remain below the mouth of Penobscot, and continue in business, were required to take the oath of allegiance; and all those who do not intend to continue in active business, were required to take a neutral oath, such as not to take up arms, &c. against his majesty. All those who declined taking either of these oaths, were to depart immediately, as all below the Penobscot was considered under the jurisdiction of his majesty. It is further stated, that two transports, with artillerists, ordnance, &c. arrived at Castine in company with the frigate, and were landing. Custom houses are established at Machias and Castine.

A frigate arrived at Castine last Monday direct from Halifax bringing a proclamation of sir John Sherbrooke requiring those wishing to remain below the mouth of Penobscot and continue in business to take the oath of allegiance, those not intending active business to take a neutral oath not to take up arms against his majesty, and those declining either oath to depart immediately as the area was under his majesty's jurisdiction. Two transports with artillerists, ordnance, etc. arrived in company with the frigate and were landing.
