Many Good Residences Being Erected in Different Parts of the City
Building operations are having quite a boom in this city at the present time. The activity is not confined to any one line of buildings or to any one locality in the city but is general. It includes manufacturing plants, shops, business blocks and residences.
Besides the new dry kilns for drying lumber, which both the St. Maries Lumber company and the Milwaukee Lumber company added to their plants during the winter, one entirely new manufacturing plant has been erected during the winter and is now in full operation. That is the box factory built and being operated by the Lewiston Box Company. This plant was finished the latter part of March and has been in operation about a month.
The Idaho Laundry company has its plans prepared for putting up a new laundry building and has been at work for the past two weeks excavating for it. The excavation is nearly completed and work on the foundation will be started this week.
Steele & Lane have the excavating finished and a concrete foundation in for a two story building on Main street next to the O. K. rooming house. Lumber is being hauled on the ground and the actual work of building will be started at once. It is understood that the first floor is to be used for a store and the second for a rooming house.
A good, substantial two story building is being completed on Tenth street near the depot. The first floor will be used for a restaurant and the upper story for a rooming house.
Frank Hennessy has the plans prepared and is excavating for a fine two-story building with a basement, which will be erected on his lots on the corner of Main and Eighth streets. This building, when completed, will be the home of the Bungalow Theatre and is being built and arranged entirely with this end in view. It is 25x110 feet and will have nearly double the seating capacity of the present Bungalow Theatre. Special attention will be given to the ventilation, the exits and all other matters which go to make a first class show house.
New dwelling houses are being built in all parts of the city which are so numerous that it is impossible to give the name of the owners or a description of the houses in an article of this length. The one particular thing noticeable about the residences which are being built this spring is that they are all larger and of a much better character than a majority of those heretofore in the city. There are a small number of small houses being built, especially in the outlying districts but a large majority of those being erected in the main residence sections of the city are of good size, strictly modern and add materially to the appearance of the city.
Taking everything into consideration, the city is manifesting a vigorous growth and every indication points to a busy and prosperous year.
