According to the True American:

Politics in old Hunterdon on the Democratic side of the fence are beginning to resemble last week's weather. The fight at the primaries will be to decide who shall be Democratic boss of the county. For the past two years the activity of Senator William C. Gebhardt, of Clinton, in local, county and State affairs, has not altogether been satisfactory to former leader, James N. Pidcock, of Whitehouse, and efforts will be put forth by both factions for the selection of the Democratic leader. Both Pidcock and Gebhardt claim the title. The strife this fall will be for sheriff county commissioner and member of the assembly.

The Gebhardt faction announces David L. Holcombe, of Delaware township, for sheriff; John Johnson, of Bethlehem township, for commissioner, and David H. Agans, of Readington township, for member of assembly.

Pidcock will support Samuel D. Skillman, of Readington township for sheriff, James H. Trewin, of Flemington borough, for commissioner. His candidate for assembly has not been announced, but it is believed he will support a prominent Democrat at the northwestern part of the county.

Former Assemblyman Oliver O. Holcombe, of Lambertville, announces himself as a candidate for re-election. "I make this announcement," he says, "without presumption on the part of myself, because I feel that with the benefit of my previous experience in the same office and the knowledge thus necessarily obtained of the requirements for legislation for the general welfare of the Hunterdon county constituency. I shall, if nominated and elected. be able to serve the people of the county well and satisfactorily. I further take pride in announcing that I am an advocate of the principles of democracy as promulgated and practiced by that acknowledged and progressive leader, Governor Woodrow Wilson, and if nominated and elected, it shall be my purpose to support and assist him in his endeavor to provide a rule of the people of this State."

No announcements as yet have been made for the offices on the Republican ticket. It is rumored, however, that Deputy Sheriff Frank O. Barkley, of Lambertville, will be a candidate for sheriff.
