SPOKANE, (AP)- Joe Quillan, 68-year-old Alaskan prospector, is paying his first visit to civilization in 46 years and his reaction is "I'm going to get back to Klery Creek as soon as I can."
His chief reason for wanting to get back to his diggings north of the Arctic Circle is the automobile.
"Both sides of the streets are full of them," he said, and hundreds are running up and down the middle like the wind.
Down here I'm afraid of getting killed every time I turn around.'
A good many other things about civilization are new to him, too. He said he had his first ride in an elevator when he arrived in Seattle a week ago.
Quillan is going on to visit a sister, Mrs. M. A. Fleming in Rochester, N. Y., : and he's going by plane, which he prefers to an automobile.
"It's safer," he said.
