Young Air Force Officer Points To Opportunities

The opportunities in the Armed Forces today are far more numerous than they were a decade ago, a young Air Force officer said here Saturday.

Captain Calvin O. Carter brilliant young officer, who has been serving his country for more than ten years now, is in Atlanta with his family waiting for orders to take an assignment in Laon, France.

Captain Carter is a native of New York, but his wife, the former Cynthia is a native Atlantan. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman McClain.

THREE CHILDREN
The Carters have three children, Eric, four: Yvonne, five and Lisa, the baby two years.

Captain Carter, only 32, already can be called a "veteran" in the Air Force. He has seen service in Korea. He has already spent two years in France; served in England and Okinawa.

He has been a officer in charge of personnel and intelligence.

The young officer is well trained for his work in the Air Force.

AIR FORCE FINANCING
He has his degree in economics from Howard and has attended some of the top universities in the country. He also has a degree in Air Force financing.

"The opportunities for young men today are plentiful if they have the background and the desire to apply themselves," Captain Carter said.

"There are opportunities for anyone wanting to go to school after they enlist, he added.

The officer said the Armed Forces would work out programs for local colleges and institutions in order that deserving young men might further their education.

The young officer has attended command staff school, transportation and others.

There are also many opportunities for one to obtain technical training. he added. He said the Services are constantly searching for men to learn to plan together and do things for themselves and other people.

Mrs. Carter, who says she enjoys the life of the service, look at her husband's career as a fine experience for all, including the children. She will join her husband as soon as housing is available for the entire family.

Mrs. Carter is a graduate of Palmer Memorial Institute. Sedalia North Carolina. She majored in history.

Both Captain and Mrs. Carter said their experience, living with various groups and races in the Armed Forces has "been a rich and encouraging one. I have not witnessed a single negative incident during my entire career" the Captain stated. "I think every young man who is ambitious and who is thinking of his future should take advantage of such a career."
