In the South Carolina Gazette, of August 4, is the following Article.

"It is very remarkable, some odd Circumstances are found from the Arrival of a Number of Spanish Vessels; at once at the several Ports in this Province, one at Sunbury, and one at Savannah, the only two in Georgia; one at Beaufort, Port Royal, two at Charles Town, one at Georgetown, one at Cape Fear, and one at Wilmington, all the Forts in this Province; and perhaps some may be arrived since at Ports northward of us." They are all from Cumana; and this Number fails from thence for this Continent, as this, nine, is by some said to be seventeen, by others no less than thirty.

A Famine is dreaded throughout the Spanish Provinces in and near the Gulf of Mexico; where, for three Months Drought is said to have prevailed, is the Principal of their coming those Ports in Quest of Provisions; but does not shew entering every Port look suspicious & we know not what is doing at the Floridas; we know that the Spaniards have tampered lately with the Creek and other Indians; we know their State of all the Fortifications in this Province; and we know that the Spaniards do not allow theirs to be viewed, and the Navigation of their Rivers to be explored by Foreigners."
