Messieurs Printers,

Seeing in your last Paper, an Address from Major General SULLIVAN, on Military Matters, for the Promotion of a well Regulated Militia, brought him to my Mind.

AMONG the several Candidates for the Chair, who can claim a better right to our suffrages, than this Hon. Major General? Show the man in the State, who has plann'd, executed, suffer'd and borne more for his country than he has; let us only read over again the American newspapers, wherein his exploits and dangers have been published: and then let us reflect whether there are any honors which in our turn we can give him, and he will accept of, but what we are bound by every tie to do it: not to derogate from the pretensions of any other gentleman, there are none more deserving it than the General, none who would discharge the important trust with more resolution and fidelity, or more discourage faction with a disdainful contempt of its promoters.--Let us promote his Election, and let us not be deceived by the artful insinuations of some, who have said he would not accept of it, and that it would hurt his private-interest :--That is not to be considered by us, let us chuse him, and if he will not accept of it, we have discharged our duty, and then we may look round for another Candidate, next deserving, but let us remember the General is but a man, and he may esteem the suffrages and calls of his country irresistible, and comply with their wishes at least one year, and then he may resign his pretensions if he pleases.
