We think noticing this lecture on its merits deserve would be bad not so give of the mains, while the mails bed it be number in it on dg mooy, the audience was merrily quite pressed but not say that it was treated in a very insipid and foggy way. In Mark's Subt Giophe, dear mind, quota most desirable, rare, and difficult K ab in in, J ydea Thayc'e delivery i a trol adi and, when he permitted his two rous s his thoughts and action to shay ed t t b, might easily become, when he took the trouble pastor of the Birber Jorkm Joannoe what constituted true heroism. We differ widely from the lecturer in his estimate of such t… character; Especially do we dissent from his opinion: woman's loveliness, united with the most heroic boldness, that the world has seen since the time of the ancient prophetesses-we mean Joan of Arc. The lecturer regarded hers as not the fire of romu- ine heroism. We think that the general judgment of the world pronounces a contrary verdict. There were many eloquent and truthful passages in the lecture which we would like to quote, but we have only space to present the following, which we particularly commend to those to whom it is addressed: "There would be more heroism in our day if there was less dreaming. There are too many castles built in the air for an heroic age. Young men do not rely enough upon themselves. They look too much to the decease of rich uncles for pecuniary aid. They wait too long for "something to turn up." There is not independence enough in them. Independence and success go hand in hand. They should stop dreaming -tumble down their airy castles, put their own shoulders to the wheel-and the world will soon learn that they are independent. Above all, they should have a mind of their own --be bold, determined, decided. Let them look to their moral courage, and physical power will take care of itself. Stand up for the truth and the right, and you will be heroes indeed. What, if independence of mind will make you enemies? I would not trust that man who boasts he has no enemies. Enemies follow in the wake of firmness of purpose and decision of character as legitimately as sickly popularity hugs the man of negative qualities and non-committalism."
