The Ashtabula Democracy.

The tried and true Democrats of Ashtabula County met in Convention at Ashtabula on Friday afternoon last pursuant to a call of their County Committee, and elected the following Delegates to the State Convention:

Delegates - Dr. A. L. Pomeroy, of Windsor; W. H. Hubbard, of Ashtabula; H. G. Shipman, of Austinburgh; R. O. Rote, of Geneva; J. A. Caldwell, of Conneaut, and Henry Apthorp, of Ashtabula.

Alternates - S. C. Wilson, Windsor; L. P. Collins, Ashtabula; Frank Knapp, Harpersfield; Dr. I. P. Fricker, Ashtabula; H. Markham, Austinburgh; Squire Ransom, Conneaut.

They adopted the following resolutions expressive of their sentiments on the questions of the day, which, we doubt not, will receive a hearty endorsement by the Democracy throughout the District:

Be it resolved, by the Democrats of Ashtabula county, in convention assembled, That we maintain it to be one of the most important functions of every government to provide a currency for its people and will at all times oppose the delegation of this high duty to any privileged corporation or class of persons.

Resolved, That we are opposed to the further contraction of the greenback currency and demand the repeal of the resumption law of 1873.

Resolved, That we favor the immediate enactment of a law authorizing the coinage of the silver dollar, known as the "dollar of our fathers," and making it a full legal tender for all debts, public and private, except upon legal existing contracts stipulating other forms of payment.

Resolved, That in so far as the present de facto President shapes his Southern policy in accordance with the constitution and the fundamental principles of the Democratic party we approve it; but no act of his, however laudable or patriotic, can ever efface from our memories the humiliating fact that he was never elected to the place he now occupies.
