The Intelligencer presents its readers with London and Paris letters, wherein much light is shed on the political condition of Europe. Of one important thing the public may rest assured in connection with the foreign intelligence thus spread before the world, viz: whatever these two writers say, may be relied on presenting views honestly entertained and drawn from sources such as deserve at least earnest and respectful attention on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Union explains the necessity resting on the President to preserve the Baltimore platform, arguing with much power to show that upon the steadiness with which he adheres to his determination to treat all alike who stand on it, the future success of the Democracy for the most part depends. The same paper announces (in effect) that if the Piedmontese Government, acting under the influence of Austria, shall refuse to issue an exequatur to Felix Forresti, our Consul at their Capital, this Government will send no other in his stead. The Union also joins the Boston Post in denouncing the conduct of some of the Democrats in Massachusetts, who, in arranging their local tickets, have joined hands with opponents of the fugitive slave law. The editor is "down on" them in terms as vehement as those he applies to the disaffected in New York.
The Sentinel's leader discusses the Cuban question, expressing views identical, on this subject, with those of the Union. The rest of that paper of to-day is devoted to a continuation of its peculiar "independent support" of the Administration, in the matter of the trouble in the party in New York.
The Clipper discusses the duties and responsibilities resting on the voters of Maryland in their approaching election, and dresses the jackets of the Catholics in an article headed "The Outrage in Tuscany."
We call the attention of our readers to the correspondence between Mayor Maury and Mr. Cunningham, which may be found on the first page of to-day's paper, in relation to the law prohibiting the obstruction of the side-walks and personal abuse on the streets. We commend the admirable letter of the Mayor to the attention of all good citizens.
