Developing his address from the theme "An Emporium of Faith," Dr. W. K. Payne, President of Savannah State College told the Founder's Day Audience at Albany State College to "maintain a steadfast faith, but never leave it dangling - always attach it to something with meaning and significance." The Georgia Educator additionally stated that people, for the most part "have far more ability than they give themselves credit for," and that all people "can be successful in some given area." The 53rd Founder's Day Program, presided over by President W. H. Dennis, Jr. had the added honor of having its Founder and President Emeritus, Dr. J. W. Holley present. Dr. Holley was arrestingly interesting as he related many of the problems encountered in beginning the now named Albany State College. Numerous Alumni and guests were on hand for this well-presented program and for the reception immediately following.
