NEW YORK. MARCH 6.

Captain Young, of the schooner Mary, from Aux Caves, informs us, that on the 2d Feb. he saw eight sail of French men of war (six 74 gun ships, and frigates) standing up for the Bight of Leogane. On the 10th, near Cape Hatteras, he fell in with a schooner from the Spanish main, bound to Philadelphia, the captain of which told him, that on the 15th of Feb. being close in with Cape Francois, he saw the whole town, as well as that of Petite Ance, in flames. He also saw 12 line of battle ships engaging the different forts and a smart fire of musquetry kept up for the space of 2 hours.

Captain Brown, who arrived at this port yesterday, in 25 days from Aux Caves, informs us, that on the 7th ult. he spoke the Franklin of New Hampshire, capt. Prov, bound home from St. Marks Hispaniola: and that he was assured by captain Prov, that the French fleet had arrived at St. Domingo, and anchored under Monte Christi; that the commander of the fleet went on shore to have an interview with Toussaint, but was ordered to return onboard his vessel the day following, without having received permission to land his troops: and that, in consequence of this measure, he had divided his fleet into small squadrons, and stationed them at different parts of the island. The fleet consisted of 78 sail.

An embargo, was to take place at Aux Caves on the 8th February

Captain Brown further informs, that a week previous to his sailing he saw the execution of two negroes who were convicted of an attempt to murder the white inhabitants. 100 others, seized on suspicion of the same offence, were in custody, waiting trial.
