Adverse weather compelled a landing or their flight might have been much greater. As it was, they smashed all records for distance, their landing place being 1,355 miles from St. Louis. Since landing they have been struggling to reach a settlement through an almost unknown region, finally succeeding foot sore and weary, but happy, last evening.

Hawley and Augustus Post; distance traveled, 1,355 miles; flew in all about 1,000 miles; time in air, forty-six hours; landed 4 p. m.
