A Gambler Lodged in Jail.-A black
leg, giving Charles Pierson as his name,
was arrested on Monday last, by the Sheriff
and lodged in Elk jail. Pierson and two
confederates appeared to be following the
Gardner circus which exhibited here on that
day, and plying their art with cards.-
Frank Sauter and John Buchanan, both residents
of this neighborhood, were tempted to
bet on some trick practiced by the gamblers,
and of course lost their money. Sauter lost
$20, when he called upon 'Squire Brown for
a warrant, and the Sheriff very politely waited
on Mr. Pierson, who after a hearing, was
lodged in jail, in default of bail for $500.
where he still remains. His two associates
took the alarm in time to make their escape.
