TO THE EDITORS OF THE WHIG.

ALBEMARLE, July 25th.

Gentlemen: If it were not, at the same time, a source of sorrow and humiliation for the additional evidences of the depravity of poor human nature, it would really be amusing, to a reasonable and observing man, to mark the political and editorial course of your contemporary of the Enquirer. As a specimen of his time serving consistency, I send the following extract from his paper of February 12th, 1828. (last year, mind.) which I doubt not you will insert for the amusement of your readers.

Can you compare it with his present servile support of the rewarders and purchasers of the press, upon an enlarged and magnificent scale, without a smile of contempt for the man who has no more respect for himself or his readers? Aye! without a feeling of indignant scorn for the creature who can thus degrade the species to which he belongs.

Yours, &c.

A LOOKER-ON.

From the Richmond Enquirer of Feb. 12, 1828.

"The publication of the Laws of Congress which had been conferred on the Editor of the Louisiana Courier, ever since the year 1806, under the administrations of Jefferson, Madison and Monroe, has been withdrawn from that paper by the Secretary of State, because it had independence enough to support Gen. Jackson,—and it has been transferred to the organ of the administration in that city. If such things are done in the green tree, what will not be done in the dry? If such measures are practised by the administration during its first term of service, what principles and acts may not be expected from Mr. Adams, should he be firmly fixed in the saddle for another four years? This question is pregnant with the most serious consequences."
