Full Text

Homicide.

A poor old mulatto man, between sixty and seventy years old, named William Mitchell, who resided in the western part of the city, was found dead on Saturday morning, on the hill a short distance east of the upper bridge leading to Georgetown. He had been on Friday night at the Methodist meeting in Georgetown, of which he is said to have been a worthy and consistent member, and the foul deed was done while he was returning home. We have heard no probable cause assigned for this diabolical act, and can only conjecture that it was done by desperadoes in sheer wantonness. Blows from clubs or stones upon his head and face were the injuries that caused his death.
