ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Orson P. Millet of Anchorage yesterday was named to be state president of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints.
Millet was called to take the highest state church office available by two apostles of the quorum of 12 apostles of the Mormon Church. Elder Mark E. Peterson and Elder Franklin D. Richards.
A Fairbanks Supreme Court justice, Harry Arend, was named to be First Councilman of the new Mormon Alaska State. Lloyd Owen, an Anchorage RCA employee, was named Second Councilman.
Others named included Glen Hargan, clerk; Milton C. Christianson and Bruce Hooper, assistant clerks for Fairbanks and Anchorage, respectively; and nine other councilmen.
