Nov. 5. On Friday last Mr. Alderman Wilkes dined at the Magpye in Chelsea, in consequence of an invitation from the independent freeholders of Middlesex, in that place.

As soon as he alighted from his carriage, (about half past three), he was saluted with eleven brass cannon, planted on the bank of the river before the house for that purpose; and the bells of the church were set a ringing. The meeting on this occasion was exceedingly numerous.

The following toasts were given after dinner: The King, Queen, and Royal Family, with a salute of the cannon: The independent freeholders of the county of Middlesex, particularly the 1443, with a salute of the cannon: The two legal Representatives in Parliament, for the county of Middlesex, with a salute of the cannon: The independent part of the Livery of the city of London: The Lord Mayor elect: Mr. Alderman Townend: Mr. Alderman Sawbridge: Sir William Stephenson: Mr. Alderman Oliver: The Lords Camden, Chatham, Rockingham, and Temple: Sir George Savile: Sir William Young, &c.

A Gentleman, by the unanimous request of the freeholders, acquainted Mr. Wilkes, that the intention of this meeting was to testify their many thanks to him for his steady attachment to liberty; for his zealous attempts to redress our various grievances; and for his constant perseverance in those measures notwithstanding all tyrannical opposition; and that they were ready on all occasions to give him all the assistance in their power.

Mr. Wilkes retired about 8 o'clock, and was again complimented with the cannon and bells. The evening was concluded with great order and regularity.
