New-York, March 8.

The privateer Mars, Capt. Ingersoll, of this port, after having captured nine vessels, and after having been chased 11 times during her cruise, was so closely pursued on Monday by a 74 & a frigate, that she was ran ashore on Rockaway Beach; where the enemy took her, and committed her to the flames. Previous to which, Capt. Ingersoll, and about 40 of his crew, made their escape to the shore, leaving on board about 30 of his men, and about 43 prisoners, all of whom fell into the hands of the enemy. During the cruise, Henry Hall & Thomas Woodward, seamen, were drowned. Four of the prizes to the Mars, were manned and ordered in, only one of which, has, to our knowledge, arrived, viz. the brig Britannia.
