PAWTUCKET, WEDNESDAY APRIL 22, 1829.
We continue to present to our readers the renunciations of Free Masonry by respectable and enlightened men. We give them because we are resolved that, as far as lies in our power, all the testimony relative to the true character of that institution shall be given to the public. We publish them, because we wish to produce a blush of shame if possible, on the brazen faces of those men who call their seceding brethren liars, and still impudently declare that Masonry is not revealed. The Gentlemen who have renounced Masonry and declared it to be before the world in the revelations which have been made, have not done this thing in concert.—There has been no conspiracy against the institution. The renunciations have come from individuals widely separated from each other. There is no political trick or religious enthusiasm in this thing. The seceders from Masonry come from all parties in politics and religion. Without any concert there is a wonderful harmony in their declarations—and overwhelming proofs of honesty and truth. Old and young, learned and unlearned, men in health, and those on the bed of death have solemnly borne witness to the same thing, that Free-Masonry is a dangerous and an immoral institution, and that its secrets are before the world.
We entreat those, then, who are resolved to adhere to the institution, if they have any regard to their reputations to keep silence on this subject, until they can make up their minds to come out like honest men and bear witness to the truth.
