MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT.
Saturday last, being the day appointed for the training of the militia in the town-ship of Kingwood, Hunterdon county, the company under the command of M'Pher-son met accordingly at Quaker-town, and after performing the several duties requi-red of them with great dexterity, and in good order, were dismissed. A number of them, however, among whom was Capt. M'Pherson, retired to a public house to spend the remainder of the afternoon. In the evening, the Captain and several of his men were at the door of the house, one of whom with his firelock, and being igno-rant of her being loaded, had several times napped her; at length, unfortunately, being presented towards the Captain she went off, and the charge went through his body--He instantly proclaimed himself a dying man, and prayed fervently for the mercy of God. Two physicians were rea-dily obtained; but they applied their skill for his recovery in vain--He expired about 9 o'clock the same evening!--Thus died a man, whose upright conduct had secured to him the esteem of an extensive acquaint-ance--Honesty, candour, benevolence and friendship were distinguishing traits in his character, He has left a widow and seven young children to lament the un-timely and melancholy departure of an in-dulgent and affectionate husband, and an instructive and kind parent!
