Full Text

The Jews, particularly those of Germany, insist that Buonaparte is Ben Joph, the forerunner of the Messiah; and there is some reason to believe that the French have promised the Jews to reinstate them in the holy land. Were they really to make such a public declaration, there can be no doubt but that fanatic people would flock thither from all parts. The riches they would take with them would make Israel an excellent ally of the great nation, who would know how to dispose of it.

The Portuguese Jews are very angry with their brethren; they say they would rather have a house in Epping Forest than in Jerusalem, and that English roast beef is better than the milk and honey of the land of Canaan.
