On Tuesday last arrived here Captain Mitchell From Gibraltar, who informs that in consequence of some dispatches received on the 28th of January by la Brune frigate; in 16 days from Plymouth. Admiral Saunders's squadron was got in readiness to put to sea at a moment's warning, and sailed the 29th: That when the British vessels in the Spanish ports were Seized: it was said even the books and accompts of the merchants were taken from them: that he saw at Gibraltar a copy of a most insolent Spanish manifesto: That the Danae frigate had been fired at from the Spanish lines: And that on the 1st of March, in lat. 28, lon. 145 W. from the Lizard, he spoke with his Majesty's ship Squirrel, going with dispatches from Admiral Saunders to Quebec, which ship had orders to take, sink, burn and destroy all Spanish property. He knows nothing of a British sloop of war's arrival at Gibraltar from Lisbon, nor does he say that the bombs and fire ships which joined Admiral Saunders, were all that had been sent from Britain that way this war.
