PORTLOCK MISS GETS HONORABLE MENTION IN NATIONAL CONTEST

Miss Vivian Nilson, of Portlock, won signal honors in essay contest with entrants from all over the states and Alaska.

Her subject, the Life and Writings of Rolvaag, gave her the high place of being one of five accorded Honorable Mention.

Besides the five there were three prize awards.

Miss Vivian, who will reach her 17th year next month, graduated with flying colors at the late semester of the Seward high school. While Thomas Neville of Seward gained highest marks, with Vivian's brother Norman second, and Vivian third, there was a bare fraction of one per cent between them.

Both Vivian and Norman attended the first two years of high school with Mrs. Bertha Stryker, teacher of the Portlock school.
