City Under Martial Law After Terrorist Is Executed
JERUSALEM, June 29. - (UP) - Thousands of pious orthodox Jews surged thru the narrow streets of Jerusalem today, violently protesting the execution of Solomon Ben Joseph, 18-year-old Jew who died at dawn on the gallows in Acre prison.
The city was put under martial law.
Jewish unrest was general throughout the country. Joseph was hanged for Jewish terrorism, firing on an Arab bus and possessing two pistols and five bombs.
He spoke his last words just before going to the gallows.
"I die with the name of Jabotinsky (president of the Zion revisionist organization) on my lips, sacrificing my life and hoping that the Jews will learn the lesson of the harmfulness of the last two years and of self-restraint."
British authorities, fearing widespread disorders, placed the city under martial law.
