Delhi Retaken.

The Arabia brings details of the capture of Delhi by the English on the 14th of September; Perhaps some of our isolated readers may not know that the nations of British India have revolted, murdered thousands of English and other Europeans, sparing neither women nor children; but accompanying their massacre with horrors too frightful to repeat; and the thoughts of which makes the finger ends tingle the eye grow dim, and the blood curdle around the heart. Delhi was the principal seat of the revolt and here the atrocities committed upon English ladies were such that the calm, dispassionate London Times, says "let not one stone be left upon another in Delhi"! and the innate love of justice in every human heart must echo, amen!

It is therefore cause of devout thankfulness that this nest of monsters, has been recaptured, by those who so unwisely fortified it in former years, and let it to be principally garrisoned by fiends bound to them by the ties of fear, those cowardly natives who have since written them this terrible lesson of blood. But we thank God that the sons of our forefathers, in all the bitterness of war and vengeance have not forgotten that they were men born of a christian ancestry. On the eve of the attack the commanding officer published an "order of the day" with this clause:

"Major General Wilson need hardly remind the troops of the cruel murders committed on their officers and comrades, as well as their wives and children, to move them in deadly struggle. No quarter should be given to the mutineers: at the same time, for the sake of humanity and the honor of the country they belong to he calls upon them to spare all women and children that may come in their way."

May the records prove that this order was strictly obeyed, and while we trust that Delhi will literally be blotted out from the face of the Earth, may the world of Paganism learn that christian nations even in the horrors of war, differ essentially from the worshipers of Bramin.

It is strange that European residents of India were so taken by surprise in this revolt. They who must have been acquainted with the state of their means of defence should have foreseen much that has come to pass. Why they could even have trusted to any assumed feeling of amity on the part of the natives is most unaccountable; for an American lady, the wife of a Presbyterian Missionary who has resided in India for twelve years, told us, but one year ago, that she had never seen a respectable Hindoo woman; never had been admitted to one of their houses, or permitted to look upon one of their faces, that all Hindoo women who were visible to the profane eyes of Europeans, even those of their own sex, were viler than the vilest of streetwalkers of European and American cities. Our informant was here with her husband to provide for leaving their children, in this country to be educated, on account of the hideous vices of the only classes of natives with which they were permitted to associate. She likewise informed us that any Hindoo would die of starvation rather than eat with a European, or allow one to touch his food.
