A surgical operation was performed in Nashville on Monday evening last, by Dr. Newton of this town on a child of Mr. Henry Swisher of Williamson County. The following are the circumstances which gave occasion to this uncommon and terrifying operation.

The daughter of Mr. Swisher, of 3 years and a few months old, while eating & playing with a water skin, received into its windpipe one of the largest size: after being frequently almost strangled with the substance and the concomitant suffocation in the windpipe she was brought to Nashville almost in the act of suffocation from the wind, the near the breast being the seed pipe extracted with a crooked probe. A free respiration was immediately restored. The child is now in perfect health, except a small wound which is rapidly healing.
