IT IS NOT TOO LATE FOR JUNE CORN

The importance of planting a good crop of June corn should not be taken lightly by the farmers at the present time when the extreme drouth has cut the already low yields of the corn crop in the parish and at best there will be a scarcity of this important crop on the markets.

June corn can be planted as late as the tenth day of July and be expected to make a paying crop, however, the planting should be done as soon as possible to make the best yields.

There are acres and acres of corn in this section that will not make a paying crop and ought to be cut for feed and the ground replanted in June corn as the prospects for a crop of corn from this source will be better than if this damaged corn were allowed to cover the ground until harvest time.

There are many idle acres that are starving a few hogs, or cattle that by cutting off with a fence could grow a paying crop of June corn. The farmer who grows a good crop of June corn for home use is going to be able to sell more of the corn crop for good prices and he will be more able to get his barns filled with feed necessary for his work stock.

This nation being in a state of war would naturally cause an extra burden to be thrown on its people, but the drouth has cut the rice, corn and cane crops and there are no vines to plant sweet potatoes, so somebody is going to be short on feed crops. June corn is going to be the great help in this great crisis if it is not neglected too long, as it is not always profitable to plant after the 10th of July.

Be sure to plant beans, cabbage, and potatoes in the garden, and if there is any vacant land about the place take a shot at a June corn crop. It will pay you better than anything that you can plant at the present time.

T. H. CASANOVA,
Parish Dem. Agent.
