Again.
I have but a few words to say in summing up the controversy on the U. S. Merino Register. We all understand precisely what it is for. Mr. Hiatt says that pure blood Merinos, descended from importations from Spain prior to 1812, can be recorded without having the scale of points applied. Then, again, he says: "The only sheep that can be admitted to the register are the pure descendants of importations from Spain, made prior to 1812, without admixture of any other blood." Thanks to Mr. H., for being so frank as to admit this much. The breeders can now understand what the scale of points are for: To be run by a ring governed by aristocratic notions, with the intention that several persons may ride about the country to extort enormous pay for imaginary labor. It was not necessary for Mr. H., to state that this ring was not seeking economy, cheapness or liberality. By quoting a few lines of explanations, it shows plainly that this scale of points is based on extortions, aristocracy and selfish notions. I am hoping and trusting that the breeders of Merino sheep may unite upon some plan for a register that may be an honor to the founders, and a blessing to future generations.-C. A. M.

Main Argument
the u.s. merino register's scale of points enables aristocratic extortion by a select group, despite allowing pure pre-1812 spanish-descended sheep without it; breeders should unite for a fairer, honorable register system.
