William Brady, WMC, Speaks On "Sub" Radio Program
(Ruth Dembo, Radio Community Editor)
Mr. William Brady, War Manpower Commissioner for New London, was a guest of The Sub Tuesday night and gave an interesting report of the work of the War Manpower Commission, government agency set up to deal with manpower problems during the war.
Mr. Brady stated that the excellent cooperation between labor and management has resulted in a successful stabilization program for New London and throughout the State and has helped to rank Connecticut among the top producers of war materials in the Nation.
Mr. Brady paid tribute to Labor in the war production program.
He said: "We started our major war effort shortly after Pearl Harbor, with a labor force which was hardly sufficient to take care of the rapidly expanding demands of our Army and Navy. With the cooperation of labor we have recruited several thousands of workers for factories here and I must say that our labor organizations were very cooperative in this recruitment uniting towards one goal and that was to satisfy the demands of our Armies and Navy.
Connecticut's labor force which was 500,000 in 1942, jumped to 850,000 in 1943, ranking Connecticut among the top industrial states in the U. S.
On April 17 the Sub will interview Mrs. James Morrison, president of the League of Women Voters on "A World Security Organization." She will tell of your role in building world peace, so tune in on Tuesday at 8:30."
