This is Event 1 of 2. The full text below covers all events in this component.

Yesterday morning George Strobel who has a lease and has been working for several months on the Whippowill mine, near the Curlew, telephoned to Amos Buck that he had struck it big and asking him and Henry Buck to come over. They went over and returned last night. They report that Strobel has run onto a foot of $200 ounce ore, in a well defined ledge. The ore was not found in the main tunnel, but in an incline which was being run to tap a raise from the tunnel, and it is calculated that it will be tapped again about 10 feet further in the driving of the tunnel. Not only are the owners feeling well over this find, but the men, who have stayed with Strobel all through, are jubilant and believe that the reward of everyone who has had faith in the Whippowill is in sight. Work will now be concentrated upon this body of ore, and shipments will soon be made to Tacoma, so as to realize the sinews of war to keep going and eventually drive the main tunnel on to the lead.
