Full Text

Feb. 17. By letters from Pondicherry we learn that the famous and enterprising Comte de Berriowski, and between 40 and 50 companions, have been assassinated in Madagascar by the natives of the island. The comte had instigated some merchants of London to form a commercial establishment in that island. He took his departure last year in a vessel for this purpose; and on his arrival at Madagascar he raised a number of tents, and made a slight encampment for his small body, when they were surprised and assassinated by the natives. Only two persons escaped the massacre, except those who remained on board.
