Full Text
The annual Cattle Show and Fair of the Berkshire Agricultural Society took place on Wednesday and Thursday last, in this town, and was numerously attended. Distinguished citizens from the neighboring counties and states honored the occasion by their attendance, and were highly pleased with the exhibitions and the performances. The various and the valuable breeds of cattle, sheep, and swine exhibited: the excellent quality and size of the cheese; and the industry and skill displayed in the Domestic Manufactures of the Ladies, as well as others, gave the spectators animating hopes of what might be performed for the interest and happiness of the country, when a patriotic and commendable zeal and perseverance shall generally prevail. The true spirit seems to be extending, and there is a wide field open. The President's Address gave satisfaction, and was received with repeated cheers--as were also the Vice President's remarks previous to pronouncing the premiums. The Singing was delightfully performed, and to the satisfaction and admiration of all. As the Reports of the several Committees could not be obtained for to-day's paper, we must omit further remarks until our next.
