Full Text

From an Amsterdam News-Paper. A Philosopher of one of our universities has just published a dissertation on the celebrated Mr. Franklin's theory of electricity, explaining the Leyden experiment, with illustrations of many considerable exceptions against that applauded theory. To the Leyden electrical experiment no body is a stranger, and it is well known, that professor Muschenbrook was stricken with such amazement and terror, at its effect, that in a letter to Mr. Braunmur, he says he would not, for the whole kingdom of France, make a second experiment. Our young author, after a succinct view of Mr. Franklin's explanation points out the inconveniences of his theory at the same time observing all the respect due to that excellent person, and shewing by what modes and amendments his theory may be still retained.
