Utica, N. Y., June 30. Notice was posted in the Remington Typewriter works at Ilion yesterday that commencing July 1, the establishment would be closed until further notice. The works employ 2,100 persons, mostly men, and the weekly pay roll was about $30,000 a week. Some time ago the company attempted to introduce a machine for accomplishing a part of the work of aligning the letters on the type bars of the machine. The men engaged in aligning objected to this and struck, and shortly thereafter the assemblers quit work.
