Full Text

Utrecht, May 15. On the 13th instant, towards night, some hussars, of the legion of Saint Omer, surprised six or even soldiers near Bilt, whom they tied to their horses with ropes, and brought them into this city in that situation. The next day a detachment of thirty of the same corps, joined by some chasseurs, went out with a like intent, but just as they had passed the Bilt, they met twenty dragoons of the regiment of de Tuyl, who had the picket guard; this inferior force retired, and were pursued by the hussars, and in the pursuit being reinforced, an engagement ensued, in which many were wounded on both sides. As soon as the news of this rencounter reached the city, about three hundred hussars rode at full gallop to the place of action, which made it prudent for the dragoons to retreat, leaving behind them two of their comrades who were dangerously wounded, and two others whose intrepidity had carried them too far among the hussars to retire.
