On board the schooner Pearl, Captain
Grimes, from Hartford, there arrived yester-
day from Springfield, Massachusetts, about
one hundred and fifty of the United States
troops, composed of parts of the former 11th
and 25th regiments of infantry, under the
command of Major John B. Murdock.
There were, perhaps, none of those em-
ployed in their country's service, during the
last war, who sustained a larger share of pe-
rils and fatigues of the three campaigns on
the lines, than these brave fews. Most of
them sustained a very active part in the san-
guinary battles of Stoney Creek, Chrystler's
Fields, Chippewa, Bridgewater and Fort
Erie, the termination of which has contribu-
ted so greatly to immortalize the American
name.
This detachment is to constitute a part of
the 6th regiment for the peace establishment,
and it is to be stationed at this post, under
the command of Col. Atkinson. The officers
who arrived with it are Majors Murdock,
and Watson, Lieuts. Shaler, Holcomb, and
Hopkins.
