And one Samuel Cooke, late of Westfield, Yeoman; being indicted upon two several Indictments for forging two Writings purporting to be promissory Notes for considerable Sums of Money, and for publishing the same as true Notes, knowing them to be false and forged, pleaded guilty to each, and was for each Offence sentenced to be set in the Pillory for the space of one Hour, and to pay Costs, &c. The said Cooke was also indicted for forging three other promissory Notes, and pleaded guilty, and was sentenced therefor to pay a Fine of Five pounds to the King, and to pay Costs, &c. -- He had the hardiness, we hear to send these several Notes last Winter or Fall to an Attorney in Boston, to put them in suit, which was the Means of his being detected.
