NEW YORK - Dr. Frank N. D. Buchman sailed recently for Europe with a force of 51 to answer the urgent invitations of European and African leaders. Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, President Tubman of Liberia, and leaders of the Sudan, Belgian Congo, Dahomey, Togoland and the Cameroun are among those who have urged the initiator of the world-wide force of Moral Re-Armament to come to their countries at this time of crisis.
Chancellor Adenauer, who conferred recently with Dr. Buchman in Los Angeles, said: "At this time of confusion in Europe we need, and especially in divided Germany, an ideology that brings clarity and moral power into shaping international relations. A nation with an ideology is always on the offensive. A nation without an ideology is self-satisfied and dead. Now is the time to work more strongly than ever for European unity through MRA, [the time to work more strongly than ever for European unity cannot be maintained.]"
SURE WAY TO PEACE
In a recent statement made before his cabinet and the diplomatic corps, President William S. Tubman of Liberia called for the moral re-armament of Africa as the "surest way to achieve the peace, unity and freedom we long for for our nations." He said, "There is at work today in our midst and across the world a super-force of ideology that is changing men, changing nations and bringing a new world into being. It is the ideology of Moral Re-Armament. It is the ideology of freedom."
An African diplomat, commenting on these invitations, said, "At a time when Africa is saying to white men, 'How soon can you leave?' it is significant that African leaders are turning to Dr. Buchman and the force of Moral Re-Armament and saying, 'How soon can you come?'"
Before proceeding to Africa, Dr. Buchman will preside at an Easter Assembly for Moral Re-Armament at Caux in Switzerland. To this Assembly are coming African and European leaders and government representatives to plan the next steps in the ideological advance in Europe and Africa that will make Europe proof against division through a common destiny and make Africa the answer continent.
