PROCLAIMS RED CROSS WEEK
Governor Gardner Asks People to Support the Organization's Campaign.
By United Press.
JEFFERSON CITY, March 25.—Governor Gardner today issued an appeal to Missourians to observe the week as Red Cross Week. The appeal follows:
"As we have read of the functioning of the Red Cross in all lands during these years when war was raging, we have come to feel a new pride in this magnificent organization and all classes of men and women have responded whole-heartedly and enthusiastically to each and every call upon their time and resources to carry on this splendid work.
"At the urgent request of Herbert Hoover, the Red Cross will conduct an intensive and extensive campaign for the collection of used clothing, shoes and bedding during the week of March 24 to 31. During this period the American people will be asked to contribute 10,000 tons of cast-off apparel for the helpless refugees in Allied countries. The dire need of these people is one of the most serious problems of the reconstruction days that are before us, but a long step toward solving it will be taken when the American people come to their assistance.
With this end in view, I earnestly appeal to the people of Missouri to observe the week of March 24 to 31 as Red Cross Clothing Campaign Week and urge them to give largely and generously to this most worthy cause. The need of these unfortunate refugees extreme I covet your liberal and prompt relief for them."
