On the next day, in joint session, the votes for Governor and Lieutenant Governor were counted, when it appeared that General Henderson was chosen Governor and General Darnell Lieut. Governor, the former having 8199 votes and the latter 4319.
General Henderson's inauguration took place on the 19th. In the course of the ceremony President Jones delivered his valedictory address.
Texas U. S. Senators.—Thursday's mail brought us news of the election by the Legislature of Texas of Sam. Houston and Thomas J. Rusk (Houston's favorite) as U. S. Senators, one for four and the other for six years. Of 56 votes cast, each received 51.
