Full Text

Meetings continue to be holden in the lower counties of Virginia, in behalf of Mr. Leigh for the Presidency. Whatever the prospects of this gentleman may be, one thing is certain—a decided Anti-Van Buren feeling is manifested in Virginia; and if our good Clay men, in their "holy horror" of Nullification, would not hastily throw themselves into the Van Buren ranks, some happy results might be anticipated. Once against Van Buren, (no matter how diversified the choice,) nothing on earth can bring the Virginians back to his cause; and, when the whole Southern feeling is thus arrayed, it will not be difficult to concentrate it with some effect upon one less exceptionable. Mr. Clay's friends do that gentleman's cause no good, by their ill-timed abuse of those who are engaged in drawing the South from the toils of Van Burenism.
